A Study on Care Burden and Depression of Primary Care-giver of the Elders among In-home Service User under the National Long-term Care Insurance

Abstract

|
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors related to the care burden and depression of the primary caregivers for the frail elders under the long-term care insurance system.
Methods: 131 primary caregivers completed our interview survey. Structural equation model was employed to achieve our purpose.
Results: Length of care, social support, long-term care grade and health status of care-giver were directly related to the care burden of the primary caregivers. In addition, heath status of care-recipient, neuroticism, social support and care burden were directly influenced to the depression of the family caregivers.
Conclusion: Characteristics of caregivers especially neuroticism should be considered for family caregiver`s mental health who taking care of the frail elders. In addition, we suggest diverse family support systems for the primary caregivers.
